Over the years the University Museums' permanent collection of some 30,000 works of art has been formed by generous donors who have contributed paintings, prints, sculpture and decorative arts to the museum. Major
collections given to the museum include the Ann and Henry Brunnier Collection, the Iowa Quester Glass
Collection, the Neva M. Petersen estate, the Edith and Torsten Lagerstrom estate, and the Waldee estate.

Brunnier Art Museum
The Brunnier Art Museum is principally, but not exclusively, committed to the following collection areas:
Farm House Museum
The Farm House Museum, designated a National Historic Landmark, has been preserved and restored to represent the historical period of 1860-1910 in Iowa. The Farm House Museum Collection includes 19th and 20 century decorative arts, furnishing and material culture reflecting Iowa and Iowa State College. Objects should be typical of an Iowa farm house during the last half of the nineteenth century, but should also incorporate and reflect its unique association and heritage as the founding structure of the, then, Iowa State College and Model Farm. Historical, cultural objects, artifacts and furnishings that are typical of that area may be considered. Objects may be accepted that pre-date 1860 and are appropriate. Objects shall not be accepted which date after 1915, unless there is a direct relationship with Iowa State and its early development. Objects and furnishings that were actually located in the house from 1860-1910 would be highly desirable to locate and accession.
Art on Campus Collection
The University Museums administers the Art on Campus Collection and Program for Iowa State University, including the acquisition, interpretation, and care & maintenance of the campus public art collection. Iowa State has been collecting public art for over 100 years, most actively since the 1930s and again since 1982. There are over 500 significant public works of art in the Art on Campus Collection. These works of art consist of paintings, prints, sculptures, drawings, textiles and environmental installations located across campus, both in the interior of the building and on the campus grounds.
