Rights and Reproductions

  

Images from the University Museums collections are available for research and publication. Photographic materials must be obtained directly from the University Museums collections manager and communication coordinator, Allison Juull. 

 

What is Available

  • digital files
  • slides, color transparencies, or prints (for some collection objects)
  • Professional Photography can be arranged at the requestor's expense

Fees

Public Relations Images: Any Public Relations image (including installation shots, artist images, and event images) requested for publication or exhibition will be charged a flat fee of $20 per 2,000 units (or 6 months viewable on a website or in exhibition).

Images of Works of Art:
Any image of a Work of Art requested for publication or exhibition that does NOT contain scholarly references to the works of art requested for reproduction will be charged a flat fee of $450 per 20,000 units (or 1 year viewable on a website or in exhibition). 

Images of Works of Art requested for publication or exhibition that DO contain scholarly references to the works of art requested for reproduction will be charged a flat fee of $250 per 20,000 units (or 1 year viewable on a website or in exhibition).   This includes use for print, publicity, advertising, and exhibition catalogues.

Images of Works of Art requested for publication or exhibition by ISU departments or entities will be assed a flat fee of $150 per 20,000 units (or 1 year viewable on a website or in exhibition). 

Rush Fees and Fines: A rush fee of $50 will be assessed to any request for images needed within 2 weeks of the initial contact. A $300 fine will be assessed to the requestor if the image (transparency or CD) is not returned by the time stated or if the image is returned in a damaged or unusable fashion.

Once your request is reviewed and accepted, you will receive a countersigned copy of the Image Request form, which serves as both contract and invoice, and our list of conditions for reproduction of imagery. Return the form with your payment and allow 2-4 weeks (from the day the signed form is received) for your request to be processed. Rush requests are assessed and additional fee.

Prepayment is required in the form of checks payable is U.S. dollars, credit card, Intramural Purchase Orders (ISU only) or money orders.

The museum cannot provide reproductions of objects for which it does not hold copyright; in these instances, the museum will provide you with the appropriate contact information, if known, so that you can apply directly to the artist or artist’s estate for reproduction permission.
