Dave Christiansen—The Glory of Greentown Glass

Dave Christiansen, Early American Pattern Glass Society board member, will talk about the variety of wares produced by the Indiana Tumbler and Goblet Co., especially those produced when under ownership of the National Glass Company. These treasured items ranged from simple jelly jars to veritable works of art in stunning patterns and shades. Greentown glass is today one of the hottest early American pattern glass collectibles.

Victorian Black Glass Buttons

Buttons are small items with big historical significance! Linda Beatty, Iowa Quester and guest curator of the current glass button exhibition, will present a program on Victorian-era buttons in the popular "black glass". She will also discuss the care and collecting of historic buttons.

Vaseline: A Glass Aglow

Lemon, topaz, canary, custard, or uranium glass? Marty Lawson, Iowa Quester and pressed glass collector, will discuss what precisely the coveted Vaseline glass is – and is not. Lawson will explore the unique composition and quality of Vaseline glass and present an overview of its production from the 1800’s through present. She will define and clarify methods and tools for glass identification, as well as offer tips on display and presentation of this vibrant type of glass.

Iowa City Glass

For a period of less than two years, a glass factory existed in Iowa City that, more than a century later, has all but been forgotten. Fred Phelps, collector of Iowa City glass, will share historic information about the Iowa City Flint Glass Manufacturing Company, presented and depicted through the point of view of an employee of the company.
