11.12.09 Winter Hours Update

The University Museums, Iowa State University announces its Winter Break hours for 2009. In an effort to reduce costs and conserve energy, the University Museums will close all of its facilities for eleven consecutive days during the winter break, from Thursday, December 24, 2009, through Sunday, January 3, 2010. Facilities affected by this closing include the Brunnier Art Museum, Farm House Museum, University Museums Main Office and Christian Petersen Art Museum. Additional details for each facility are as follows:

Christian Petersen Art Museum (1017 Morrill)

• December 11 is the final day for the Hot and Cool: Contemporary Glass Exhibition
• Closed December 12 through December 18, 2009 for Exhibition Installation
• Closed December 19, 2009 through January 10, 2010 for winter break and cost savings.

Brunnier Art Museum (290 Scheman)

• Open December 19 and 20 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
• Open December 22 and 23 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
• December 23 is the last day to see all of the current exhibitions at the Brunnier Art Museum
• Closed December 24 through January 3, 2010 for cost savings at the University.
• Closed January 4 through 11 for exhibition installation.

Farm House Museum (Central Campus)

• December 18 is the last day to see Merry Christmas to All: A Thomas Nast Christmas exhibition
• Closed December 19 through January 10, 2010 for winter break and cost savings.

Art on Campus Collection

• Check individual building hours; note most buildings will be closed December 24 through January 3, 2010 for cost savings.
• Outdoor sculpture available to view 24/7.

Anderson Sculpture Garden (Morrill Hall)

• Outdoor sculpture available to view 24/7.

University Museums Office (290 Scheman)

• Open December 21 through 23 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
• Closed December 24 through January 3, 2010 for cost savings at the University.

The Brunnier Art Museum is located at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

If approaching Ames on Interstate 35 from the north or south, take exit 111B labeled Highway 30 West. From westbound or eastbound Highway 30 take the University Blvd. (formerly Elwood Dr.) exit and turn north. University Blvd. (Elwood Drive) will pass on the east side of Jack Trice Stadium and Iowa State Center parking lots. Turn left on Center Drive just south of Hilton Coliseum. Follow the signs to the Scheman Building. The Brunnier Art Museum is located on the 2^nd floor of the Scheman Building.

There is free parking available on the north and south side of the Scheman Building. Handicap parking and access is available on the north side of the building.

The Christian Petersen Art Museum is located in Morrill Hall at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

If approaching Ames on Interstate 35 from the north or south, take exit 111B labeled Highway 30 West. From westbound or eastbound Highway 30 take the University Blvd. (formerly Elwood Dr.) exit and turn north. University Blvd. will pass on the east side of Jack Trice Stadium and Iowa State Center parking lots. Cross over Lincoln Way and continuer around on University Blvd. Turn left on Wallace Road and then Right on Osborn Drive. Approach the gate (1st cement piliar) and press the botton on the call box, announce you are a museum visitor. Continue west on Osborn Drive, turn left on Morrill Road. Morrill Hall is the three story red brick building directly in front of you.

There is some paid meter parking on Morrill Road. There is paid ramp parking at the Memorial Union Ramp. There is paid parking at the Armory. (please see the campus map by clicking here)

The Farm House Museum is located at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

If approaching Ames on Interstate 35 from the north or south, take exit 111B labeled Highway 30 West. From westbound or eastbound Highway 30 take the University Blvd. (formerly Elwood Dr.) exit and turn north. University Blvd. will pass on the east side of Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum, continue north across Lincoln Way toward campus. Turn left on Wallace Rd. then right on Osborn Drive. If the gate is down, stop at the call box and announce that you are a visitor to the Farm House Museum. Take the first left after the gate on Farm House Lane (formerly Knoll Road) and continue until you reach the Farm House Museum on your right.

Parking is available just north of the Farm House Museum on Farm House Lane (formerly Knoll Road). Handicap accessibility is available at the south entrance to the Farm House Museum. Parking is free, however you must obtain a parking slip from the Farm House Museum staff for your window.

The Art on Campus Collection is located across the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

If approaching Ames on Interstate 35 from the north or south, take exit 111B labeled Highway 30 West. From westbound or eastbound Highway 30 take the University Blvd. (formerly Elwood Dr.)exit and turn north. University Blvd. will pass on the east side of Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum turn left at Lincoln Way and proceed west. Turn north on Knoll Road for central campus access.

General parking is available on campus weekdays after 5:30 p.m. and all weekend free of charge. Paid hourly parking is available at the Memorial Union Parking Ramp (From Lincoln Way turn north on Knoll Road then left at Union Drive. Take the first left off of Union Drive, this will lead you to the parking ramp entrance).

The Elizabeth and Byron Anderson Sculpture Garden is located south of Morrill Hall on Iowa State University central campus in Ames, Iowa.

If approaching Ames on Interstate 35 from the north or south, take exit 111B labeled Highway 30 West. From westbound or eastbound Highway 30 take the University Blvd. (formerly Elwood Dr.) exit and turn north. University Blvd. will pass on the east side of Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum, turn left on Lincoln Way and proceed until you see the Memorial Union and Parking Ramp on the right hand side.

Paid hourly parking is available at the Memorial Union Parking Ramp. General parking is available on campus weekdays after 5:30 p.m. and all weekend free of charge.
