Location:
Brunnier Art Museum, 295 Scheman Building
Built between 1871 and 1886, the Iowa State Capitol symbolizes representative government for the citizens of the state. In 1977 artist Amy Worthen used the Capitol building as her inspiration for an intaglio print suite titled Real and Imagined Aspects of the State Capitol Building. These prints combine a legendary local landmark with fanciful characters and perspectives and have become among Worthen’s most well-known. Joan Arnett, Capitol Tour Guide Supervisor, will share the history of this 19th century Iowa building surrounded by the imaginative prints of Amy Worthen.
