Sculpting an Icon: Petersen and the Fountain of the Four Seasons

April 2, 2017, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (US Central)

Location:
2019 Morrill Hall

Beginning with his portrait sculpture of Meskwaki leader Pushetonequa, followed by his illustrations for the book Cha Ki Shi, and including his Fountain of the Four Seasons, Christian Petersen was often called upon to represent the indigenous people of Iowa in his art. As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Fountain of the Four Seasons, hear from Jerome Thompson, retired state curator for Iowa, about Petersen’s art, these state-funded commissions, and their historical and current significance.
