Two major University Museums online scholarship projects have been unveiled in the last year, the Iowa State University Biographical Dictionary and the Christian Petersen Catalogue Raissoné (Dec. 2023). Learn more about the behind-the-scenes in managing these multi-year projects, how to best utilize each publication online, and what the future holds for scholarship at University Museums.

Join curator Adrienne Gennett to explore the many stories that art can tell as she tours the exhibition Telling Tales: Exploring Narrative Art in the Permanent Collection.

Join Lynette Pohlman, director and chief curator, to explore Breaking Barriers a site-specific public work of art by artist Ivan Toth Depeña. The tour will examine behind-the-scenes glimpses in commissioning this heroic-scale sculpture for Iowa State.

The Art on Campus Collection showcases the talents of artists from a variety of racial and cultural backgrounds. Join museum staff for a walk through some of the artists representing the diversity of the campus community.

Curator Sydney Marshall will lead a tour of the new installation Umbra in the Anderson Sculpture Garden by artist Tom Stancliffe, as well as explore the artist’s connections to the larger Art on Campus Collection with a look at the exhibition Art of Fabrication.

Brunnier Art Museum curator Adrienne Gennett will tour the exhibition and introduce the newest acquisition to the permanent collection. April Surgent’s masterful ability to engrave subtle, yet powerful landscapes and seascapes within glass speak to the significant changes the world is witnessing due to climate change and human made detritus.

Join University Museums for an Art Walk centering around large-scale public art and environmental installation. In partnership with the exhibition Tom Stancliffe: Drift, visit outdoor installations that meaningfully interact with the environment.

Farm House Museum curator Allison Sheridan will tour the Farm House Museum and current exhibition Growing Up Victorian.

Hear from four artists – Jillian Bruschera, Reni Gower, Melissa Potter, and Marilyn Propp – whose art is presented in the Brunnier Art Museum exhibition Pulped Under Pressure. They will discuss their unique perspectives of working with papermaking in their art practices.

Explore the artistic process of looking closely at the University Museums’ collection of works of art honoring Jack Trice’s legacy through this program led by director and chief curator Lynette Pohlman and curator Sydney Marshall.

Experience museum work through the eyes of current Pohlman Fellow Gracia Koele (History ’23), as she shares her experience over the last year at University Museums and her recent curatorial work. 

Great-great grandson of author, advocate and etiquette professional Emily Post, Daniel Post Senning co-author of Emily Post’s Etiquette (19th ed.), presents a program on children’s etiquette.

In connection with the exhibition Art of Fabrication in the Christian Petersen Art Museum, the layered processes behind the life of a work of public art will be explored in this Zoom panel discussion with Sydney Marshall, Dan Perry, and Reinaldo Correa.
