Renovation: Collections Vault

A home for 20,000 objects

The renovated collections vault will house over 20,000 objects in the permanent collection within new compacting storage solutions to best maximize space. The new storage vault transformation enables University Museums to better access, protect and conserve the significant fine and decorative art collections. The modernization will considerably benefit the collection through greater care for delicate glass objects, organization solutions for multi-dimensional sculptures and improved climate controls for sensitive paintings and works on paper.

Hilsinger Janson Collections Vault

The Hilsinger Janson Collections Vault is named in honor of donors Arthur Hilsinger and Barbara Janson of Dedham, Massachusetts.

Both are ISU Alumni Association Lifetime Members, Order of the Knoll, W.M. Beardshear Society, and Campanile Society. Janson and Hilsinger are University Museums Curators, Christian Petersen Society Members, and emeritus members of University Museums Advancement Council.

Hilsinger has his bachelor’s degree from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He founded Hilco Vision, an industry-leading global-eyewear/eye care aggregator, delivering comprehensive solutions to customers built on a platform of innovation and operational excellence.

Janson is the retired President and Founder of Janson Publications , a publisher of materials for secondary school mathematics. Ms. Janson, a 1965 graduate of ISU in mathematics, earned her MS in mathematics from Trinity College and an MBA from the U. of Rhode Island. She is a Governor of the ISU Foundation where she serves on the Board of Directors. In 2018, she was the recipient of the ISU Distinguished Alumni Award.
