The newest exhibition at the Christian Petersen Art Museum, Designed for a Modern Life, officially opened last week with the Cocktails & Canapés reception. The exhibition celebrates the mid-century modern era and all of its innovative designs. Attendees were dually wowed with the exhibition of decorative arts and fashion and the offerings of period-themed food and drinks. Many also came dressed for the occasion in pillbox hats, full skirts and their favorite costume jewelry.
"We had a great turnout for this event," said Associate Curator Adrienne Gennett. "I think this exhibition is very relatable for people; these items were typical in the homes of their parents or grandparents. It creates a comfortable and familiar nostalgia as well as an opportunity to learn more about this important era for design."
Designed for a Modern Life: Decorative Arts & Fashion in the Mid-Century will run through June 28, 2019. The Christian Petersen Art Museum is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. while ISU classes are in session.
