The Anderson Sculpture Garden urn is ready for the winter with a new seasonal arrangement that includes evergreens, birch branches, pine cones and a glass lantern. This display is switched out three times a year and designed by University Museums intern Amelia Drake, a senior landscape architecture student.
"My goal was to create a botanical installation that highlights the resiliency of some of the beloved plants we feature in out homes and gardens this time of year," said Drake.
The Elizabeth and Byron Anderson Sculpture Garden was established in 2008 by a generous donation from Elizabeth Anderson in memory of her husband Byron. It is located just northwest of central campus in between Beardshear Hall and Morrill Hall.
The garden's specific location was selected because the Andersons, who met at Iowa State in the 50's, would meet on the steps of Morrill Hall for their social engagements. A garden was specifically chosen as a tribute to Byron because, even though the family moved often for Byron's career, a garden was planted wherever they lived.
The Elizabeth and Byron Sculpture Garden is available for viewing year round.
