This mesmerizing image is a preview of the Student Innovation Center’s Art on Campus installation, created by Catherine Widgery called Interface. Widgery’s inspiration for Interface stems from the mission of the Student Innovation Center – to push students and faculty to use their creativity, make new connections, and discover impactful solutions.
Pictured here is a view of the pleated dichroic glass walls that can be found in both the West and East entryways of the building. According to the artist, the glass is meant to “break up and reconfigure our surroundings, so we see ourselves in relation to the world around us in a transformed way...” “This enhances the mission of The Student Innovation Center, which is to provide a place for students to see challenges with fresh eyes and understand the world through new ways of thinking, using new tools to study problems from unusual perspectives while observing our environment, without preconceptions that limit us.”
The full work of art includes three components that connect the building’s interior to the exterior. Stayed tuned for more updates on the progress of Interface as we reveal the floating artwork in the upper courtyard!
The Student Innovation Center is scheduled to open on August 17.
